Deborah Kaufman

Deborah brings close to two decades of experience as a seasoned healthcare marketing and public relations practitioner. She founded Healthcare Recruiting in 1998, and since then has conducted senior-level searches for both blue chip and startup/emerging companies.

Clients include the California Healthcare Institute (CHI), a life sciences/biotech industry association; US Oncology, a national health services firm, and for the global healthcare practices of leading public affairs and PR agencies. See Clients for a representative set of engagements. Prior to founding Healthcare Recruiting, Deborah worked in billable, client-facing roles at leading PR/integrated communications agencies. As Vice President at healthcare-only PR/strategic communications agency FischerHealth/Porter Novelli. Deborah provided senior counsel and developed PR/marketing communications programs for medical device firms including Thoratec, Datascope, Intuitive Surgical, Masimo, Gensia, and Woodside Biomedical. Prior to joining FischerHealth, Deborah served as Deputy Executive Director, Marketing and Communications, for a healthcare policy-focused Robert Wood Johnson Foundation organization, where she built and directed all external communications activities. Other experience includes client-facing managerial positions in the healthcare practices at New York global PR agencies Porter Novelli and Ruder Finn.Deborah received her Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing from New York University, and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois.

Prior to joining Healthcare Recruiting, James served as a healthcare public relations/media relations consultant at Ruder Finn; in strategic communications leadership-level positions with the American Management Association (AMA); and in supervisory/managerial positions with leading telemarketing firms in New York and Los Angeles. James completed coursework in business and marketing at the State University of New York (SUNY), Oneonta.
